Simone Leal is a fine arts and portraiture photographer based in Tampa Bay. She photographs surrounding dogs (and the occasional humans) and comments on their internal dialogs. Sometimes she dresses them up, sometimes down. In her scenes, dogs and non-dogs may be cats, humans, black flamingos, or even false unicorns. Every disguise shows how subjects choose to be participants. If she approaches them in a hurry, they deny access; when she explains her abstractions, they embrace and add other theatrical shades to her projects. She also employs techniques she learned in molecular biology laboratories to maintain a constant conversation. Sometimes she throws a fluffy and noisy bone, or she may jump in the bubble pool and observe closer. The images are chromatograms of these interactions, concentrating on silences of in-between spaces.
